The Continental Divide of the Americas is a natural geological boundary separating watersheds that flow toward the Pacific Ocean from those that flow toward the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Stretching from Alaska to South America, the divide follows the Rocky Mountains and plays a vital role in North American geography.
The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail spans approximately 3,100 miles from Mexico to Canada, crossing Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. In Montana, the divide passes near Triple Divide Peak in Glacier National Park, where water flows toward Hudson Bay, the Atlantic, and the Pacific.
